My House is on the Market!

This home in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was never part of our original life-long plan, but what a great 6 years it has been! We originally moved into a rental home in the Colony Woods Neighborhood while we (im)patiently waited to close on a home that we fell in love with in Texas Township.  It was the home that had everything...acreage, Portage Public Schools, a barn, main floor living and best of all, it needed a full-blown remodel...perfect!  That kind of house doesn't come around very often and I was desperately awaiting my opportunity to give it a facelift like no other.  It was in the foreclosure process and unfortunately, the deal fell through and we did not get the house.  We still have boxes labeled "Q Ave" that will never make it to their final destination, but we needed to move forward with Plan B.  We pounded the pavement looking for a new home, but in the meantime, we lived out of boxes for 9 months, had no internet or tv, and relied on our youngest daughter to perform Taylor Swift songs as our evening entertainment.  However, the clock was ticking because our rental time was just about up.  We noticed this cute Cape Cod sitting vacant just 3 houses down from our Colony Woods rental.  This home was very appealing to us because we had come to love this neighborhood for many reasons; the neighbors, the atmosphere, the location, the mature trees...I could go on and on!  So now you ask, "Why move again?".  As it turns out, our dream home has come back, just a little further west than the original.  This "new" home is just what the doctor ordered! Not only does it have the land and barn that we have been searching for, it is also in need of some KalamazooKitty updates.  There is nothing I crave more than updating, remodeling and adding my touch to a home looking for some love and character!

Speaking of adding my touch, I have touched every single surface in this adorable, now gray, Cape Cod that we have called home for 6 years.  This has essentially been my "Parade Home" that was never in the Parade.  I've added details and texture throughout, making it unique and charming. Let me break it down for you:
2959 total finished square feet.

Exterior:
Wooded, private lot with invisible fence, mature trees and lots of perennials.  Adorable shed with tons of storage for outdoor equipment and out of season decor.  Two-tier deck with new boards and fresh stain 2019.  Screened-in porch with double french doors that is definitely our favorite room "in the house".  Replaced garage door.  And of course, rockstar neighbors all around...just sayin'!

My Kitchen

Basement:
Fully remodeled 2018-19.  New bedroom with egress window and new full bathroom (it is sooooo cool!).  Finished workout space, game room, family room (or however YOU choose to use those spaces).  Storage room (unfinished).

Main Floor:
New laundry room 2019, remodeled kitchen with open shelving & island, powder room (wait until you see the sink...hint: WWII).  Stained hardwood floors 2015, new painted trim throughout, fresh paint, 2 family rooms, formal dining room, office and good-sized entry with new front door.  Did I mention all the unique details??  Old barn door, corbels, barnwood, and much more!

Second floor:

Kitty & Phil Copeland

Remodeled master suite with free-standing tub and walk-in shower.  Brand new hall bath 2019 with tile surround tub/shower and awesome vanity. Painted wood floors and brand new carpet throughout the upstairs, May 2019.  Two bedrooms your kids, or guests, will beg for!  All bedrooms have walk-in closets.

Clearly you can tell that I love this house and more importantly, love this neighborhood.  I have put 6 years of constant updating and renovating into making this a one-of-a-kind KalamazooKitty designed home in a one-of-a-kind neighborhood.  But now that this home is completely updated from top to bottom, we are ready to move on to our next challenge and adventure.
